BEIRUT, Dec. 13 (Xinhua) -- The United Nation Higher Commissioner of Refugees representative in Lebanon said on Thursday that Syrian refugees have concerns about returning their home country despite strong wish to do so, National News Agency (NAN) reported.

"Syrian refugees are mainly worried about the compulsory military service and the law ... which threatens them with property loss," Mireille Gerard was quoted by NNA as saying.

Gerard's remarks came during a conference held at Holy Spirit University of Kaslik to discuss challenges facing Syrian refugees and their return to their homeland.

Under the Syrian law, Syrians have one year to prove their right to land or real estate. Citizens who fail to prove ownership of abandoned or destroyed real estate would lose their right to it which would be transferred to government or sold at a public auction.

Gerard said the best solution for refugees is to secure their safe and dignified return home. Enditem
