WASHINGTON -- A 7-year-old Guatemalan girl who crossed the U.S.-Mexico border died hours after being taken into custody with her father by U.S. Border Patrol, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) confirmed on Thursday.

The department said in a statement that the girl "began having seizures" and was found to have a fever of 41 degrees Celsius about eight hours after being taken into custody. She had crossed illegally into the United States together with a group of migrants in a remote New Mexico desert area last week. (US-Girl-Custody)

PYONGYANG -- The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) state media on Friday criticized South Korea for increasing military budget and holding military air drills in recent days.

The official Minju Joson daily said in a commentary that the South Korean Defense Ministry held a meeting of the Committee for the Promotion of Defense recently and decided to purchase high-tech equipment including early-warning radar against ballistic missiles and the latest anti-submarine aircraft from abroad. LOS ANGELES -- Information technology giant Supermicro has sent a letter to its customers earlier this week saying third-party investigation found no evidence of "malicious chips" on its motherboards claimed by a Bloomberg Businessweek report.

VLADIVOSTOK, Russia -- Russian President Vladimir Putin on Thursday signed a degree to move the capital of the Far Eastern Federal District (FEFD) from Khabarovsk to Vladivostok, the Kremlin said in a statement.

"The head of the presidential administration of Russia was instructed to carry out necessary organizational and staff measures related to the transfer of the center of the Far Eastern Federal District to Vladivostok," the decree read. (Russia-Vladivostok-Capital)

ADEN, Yemen -- Yemen peace consultations ended on Thursday in Sweden with uncertain deals on Hodeidah and exchange of prisoners as well as understandings on Taiz.
