TOKYO -- Dozens of people were injured Sunday in an explosion at an izakaya, or a Japanese-styled pub, in the city of Sapporo in Japan's northernmost Hokkaido prefecture.

The explosion occurred around 8:30 p.m. local time, and at least 42 people were injured, including one that sustained severe injuries, said the Kyodo News quoting local police sources. (Japan-Pub-Explosion)

KIGALI -- At least two Rwandans were killed and eight others injured when unidentified attackers torched three passenger vehicles Saturday evening in southern Nyamagabe district, near the border with Burundi, a military official said.

KANDAHAR, Afghanistan -- At least 14 fighters, including seven insurgents loyal to the Taliban group and seven government soldiers, were killed following a fierce clash in the country's southern Kandahar province on Saturday, Aziz Ahmad Azizi, the provincial governor's spokesman said Sunday.

The clash, according to the official, erupted Saturday night, when a group of armed Taliban attacked security posts in Shurabak district of the province, triggering heavy gun battle which lasted for hours and resulted in the death of the fighters. (Afghanistan-Clash)

LISBON -- Four people have been confirmed dead in an air accident involving a medical emergency helicopter in northern Portugal late Saturday, the Portuguese Lusa News Agency said on Sunday.

The National Institute of Medical Emergency said in a statement early Sunday that the helicopter went missing and was later found crashed in Valongo, near Porto, the second largest city in Portugal, killing all four on board. (Portugal-Copter-Death)

DAMASCUS -- Syria's Social Affairs and Labor Minister Rima al-Qadiri has said that 30,000 orphans have been registered in the capital Damascus and its countryside, the pro-government al-Watan newspaper said Sunday.

NEW DELHI -- At least four people were killed and three others injured Sunday in a boiler blast in a sugar factory in southern Indian state of Karnataka, officials said.

JERUSALEM -- Israel's army said on Sunday that it has uncovered a fourth "attack tunnel" crossing from southern Lebanon into Israeli territory.

The tunnel was discovered over the weekend amidst the "Northern Shield" operation, which aims to "locate and thwart" cross-border tunnels, a military spokesperson said in a statement.(Israel-Lebanon-Tunnel) Enditem
