Militants kidnap 2 gov't officials in N. Afghanistan

SHEBERGHAN, Afghanistan, Dec. 17 (Xinhua) -- Militants affiliated with the Taliban have kidnapped two local government officials in Afghanistan's northern Jawzjan province, an official said Monday.

"Taliban group kidnapped executive manager of Muradian district and one of his colleagues in an area along the way between Muradian and Aqcha districts, late on Sunday and taken them to unknown place," Kamaludin Yawar, a provincial police official, told Xinhua.

Police started investigation into the case, the official said, adding that efforts are underway to ensure the safe release of the abductees.

Taliban militants are yet to claim responsibility. Enditem
