BERLIN, Dec. 17 (Xinhua) -- The state office of criminal investigations in Frankfurt (LKA) has started investigations into five police officers over forming a right-wing radical network, a spokesperson of the LKA confirmed earlier media reports on Monday.

The five police officers had allegedly exchanged right-wing extremist and racist images, videos and content in a WhatsApp chat group. In addition to the LKA investigation, the public prosecutor's office in Frankfurt is also looking into the case for incitement to hatred and the use of symbols of unconstitutional organizations.

On Saturday it became public that a threatening letter had been sent to Seda Basay-Yildiz, a lawyer of Turkish origin who represented one of the victim families in the trial against the NSU terror group which conducted a series of racially-motivated murders and bombings. The letter to the lawyer has been signed with "NSU 2.0".

The accused officers are suspected of being responsible for sending the threatening letter to Basay-Yildiz and have been suspended from their duties. Among other things, the letter mentions the "slaughter" of her two-year-old daughter.

One of the police officers is said to have requested the lawyer's data via a police computer in order to send the letter to Basay-Yildiz's home address.

Janine Wissler, parliamentary party leader of the Left party, announced that she would request a special meeting of the committee of home affairs next Wednesday and demanded that the responsible interior minister in Frankfurt, Peter Beuth (CDU), should "urgently explain" when and how the minister had been informed about the incidents.
