PHNOM PENH, Dec. 18 (Xinhua) -- The ruling Cambodian People's Party (CPP) held its annual congress on Tuesday to review achievements in 2018 and to set targets for 2019.

CPP's Honorary President Samdech Heng Samrin said the congress aimed to evaluate general situation and to review achievements this year and to determine direction and measures for the implementation next year.

Over the course of three days, the congress was also expected to add some new members to the party's current 865-member Central Committee, he added.

"Our congress has been conducted in an atmosphere that our party has continued to lead the country solidly through a general election which went in line with the principle of liberal multi-party democracy," Samrin said in his opening speech.

The CPP won all 125 National Assembly seats in the July 29 general election.

"This truly reflects that the Cambodian people have put their hope in the CPP only to continue to lead the country," he said.

Samrin, who is also the president of the National Assembly, said that overall, political situation and business environment in Cambodia were good in 2018.

The congress was presided over by CPP's President Samdech Techo Hun Sen, who is the prime minister of Cambodia, and was attended by about 3,164 party members from across the kingdom. Enditem
