ARUSHA, Tanzania, Dec. 18 (Xinhua) -- Two suspected poachers were arrested on Tuesday after they were found in possession of game meat in northern Tanzania's District of Longido.

Head of the anti-poaching unit in Longido District, Petro Owiga, said that the suspected poachers were arrested on Tuesday at around 12:30 p.m. in Kisongo area in the district, which is close to the Tanzania-Kenyan border of Namanga.

He said that the arrest is a result of an operation conducted by the Tanzania's anti-poaching unit in collaboration with the local government authorities in the district.

"Our officials of the Tanzania's anti-poaching unit came across them during their routine patrols around midday and the suspects were found with 4 kg of impala and dik-dik meat," he said in an interview.

The official said that the suspects were also caught with ten litres of impala oil and five litres ostrich's oil.

According to him, the suspects were also found with two motorcycles and knife allegedly being used in poaching activities.

"We have also embarked on a manhunt to find all people who are alleged being behind this poaching cartel," he added.

He said that the anti-poaching operation is endless, hence warned those engaging in poaching to stop doing.

Owiga also warned public leaders who have been entertaining poaching in their areas by colluding with poachers to stop doing so as stern measures will be taken against them.

A local leader in the area Nevely Mungaya called on people in the area to be patriotic by revealing all people who are behind poaching activities in the area and the country at large at large. Enditem
