FRANKFURT, Dec. 18 (Xinhua) -- German stocks closed flat on Tuesday, with the benchmark DAX index down 31.31 points, or 0.29 percent, to close at 10,740.89 points.

European health care company Fresenius SE lost 2.38 percent, the top loser among the blue chips, followed by pharmaceutical company Merck and marketplace organizer for the trading of shares and securities Deutsche Boerse group, which lost 2.02 percent and 1.81 percent respectively.

German airlines Lufthansa gained 1.88 percent, becoming the top gainer. Material manufacturer Covestro and Deutsche Post advanced 1.77 percent and 1.73 percent respectively.

German telecommunications company Deutsche Telekom was the most traded share with a turnover of 277.5 million euros (315.7 million U.S. dollars). Enditem
