BEIJING -- Chinese stocks closed lower on Friday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 0.79 percent, at 2,516.25 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index closed 1.20 percent lower at 7,337.60 points.

JAKARTA -- Indonesia shares closed higher by 15.72 points, or 0.26 percent, to a level of 6,163.59 on Friday.

Some 355,528 transactions were booked, involving 16 billion copies of shares with a value of 10 trillion rupiah (about 686.9 million U.S. Dollars).

BANGKOK -- The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) index Friday moved down 0.77 points, or 0.05 percent to close at 1,595.33 points.

Some 12.79 billion shares worth 47.00 billion baht (about 1.45 billion U.S. dollars) changed hands.

MUMBAI -- Indian markets closed lower on Friday. All sectoral indices were traded in the red, with maximum pain visible among automobiles, banks, energy, consumption and the IT space.

The benchmark S&P, BSE Sensex closed at 35,742.07, 689.60 points or 1.89 percent down compared to its previous close at 36,431.67.

KUALA LUMPUR -- The Malaysian stock market ended higher here on Friday.

The Kuala Lumpur Composite Index (KLCI) was at 1,670.28 up 19.72 points or 1.19 percent, and the Emas was at 11,371.11 up 107.78 points or 0.96 percent.

HO CHI MINH CITY -- VN-Index, the stock market index of Ho Chi Minh City bourse in southern Vietnam, closed at 912.26 points on Friday, down 5.98 points or 0.65 percent against the previous trading day's closing session.

On Friday, VN30-Index, the new benchmark index for the southern bourse, which tracks the 30 leading stocks by both market capitalization and liquidity, closed at 873.09 points, down 3.94 points or 0.45 percent.

HONG KONG -- Hong Kong stocks closed up 129.89 points, or 0.51 percent, to 25,753.42 points on Friday.

The benchmark Hang Seng Index traded between 25,313.75 and 25,805.61. Turnover totaled 91.21 billion Hong Kong dollars (about 11.65 billion U.S. dollars).

SINGAPORE -- Singaporean stocks closed lower on Friday, with the benchmark Straits Times Index (STI) going down 0.15 percent or 4.58 points to close at 3,046.04.

The STI index went down 0.26 percent or 8.03 points to close at 3,050.62 on Thursday.

HANOI -- Stock market index of Vietnam's capital Hanoi, HNX-Index, closed at 104.45 points on Friday, down 0.08 points or 0.08 percent from the previous trading session.

Prices of 80 stocks went up, 62 stocks dropped, while 234 stocks remained unchanged.

MANILA -- Philippine shares closed 1.11 percent lower on Friday.

The benchmark Philippine Stock Exchange index decreased by 83.70 points to 7,479.71. The all-share index went down by 42.55 points, or 0.94 percent, to 4,501.58.

TOKYO -- Tokyo shares plunged Friday on the yen's strength against the U.S. dollar as well as reports on the U.S. defense secretary's planned resignation.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average ended down 226.39 points, or 1.11 percent, from Thursday at 20,166.19.

SEOUL -- Seoul shares ended slightly higher Friday.

The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) inched up 1.37 points, or 0.07 percent, to settle at 2,061.49. Trading volume stood at 304.9 million shares worth 5.4 trillion won (4.8 billion U.S. dollars).

SYDNEY -- The Australian share market closed lower on Friday, with the financial sector forming some of the reversal from a positive start.

At the close, the benchmark S&P/ASX200 stock index was down 38.2 points or 0.69 percent at 5,467.6 while the broader All Ordinaries index shed 39.6 points or 0.71 percent at 5,533.3.

PHNOM PENH -- Cambodia's stocks finished lower on Friday, with the Cambodia Securities Exchange Index down 2.48 points, or 0.54 percent, to close at 456.73.
