UNITED NATIONS -- The UN Security Council on Thursday urged political actors in Guinea-Bissau to demonstrate renewed good faith to hold "free and fair" elections for the country to break the cycle of instability.
In a statement, the Security Council expressed "regret" that the country did not hold elections as planned on Nov. 18 and voiced "deep concern" over preparations for the polls rescheduled for March 10, 2019. (UN-Guinea-Bissau-Elections)

WASHINGTON -- As the U.S. Senate is set to reconvene Thursday, President Donald Trump continued to blame Democrats for the budget impasse and again criticized Democrats' opposition to funding a U.S.-Mexico border wall.

LIMA -- At least 10 people were killed and 30 injured on Thursday when a passenger bus overturned into a shallow roadside river in west Peru.
The accident occurred around 4:30 a.m. local time east of the capital Lima at the Central Highway, in the town of Casapalca, the chief of Highway Police, Jorge Castillo, said. (Peru-Traffic Accident)

ISLAMABAD -- At least three laborers were killed and two others injured when part of a coal mine collapsed in Pakistan's southwest Balochistan province on Thursday, officials said.
