MEXICO CITY -- A passenger bus plunged some four meters off an overpass in north-central Mexico on Thursday, killing seven people and injuring at least 14.

The accident occurred at 7:50 a.m. local time (1350 GMT) along Highway 57, near the city of Santa Maria del Rio in the south of San Luis Potosi state, the local prosecutor's office said via Twitter. (Mexico-Road-Accident)

WASHINGTON -- The U.S. Senate convened briefly Thursday afternoon before adjourning until next week, with no signs of a deal to end the budget impasse that has shut down a quarter of the federal government.

The Senate will reconvene on Monday, Dec. 31, for a pro forma session only, and then return to the Capitol Hill on Wednesday, Jan. 2, to resume consideration of the border wall funding. (US-Government-Shutdown)

KABUL -- At least five militants of the Haqqani militant group have been killed following Afghan Air Force airstrikes in two eastern provinces, the Afghan Ministry of Defense said on Friday.

"Five members of Haqqani terrorist network were killed after Air Force struck militants' hideouts on the outskirts of Gardez, capital of eastern Paktia province and Gomal district of eastern Paktika province Thursday," the ministry said in a statement. (Afghanistan-Militant-Death)

SEOUL -- South Korea and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) on Friday held the meeting of the joint liaison office chiefs in the DPRK's border town of Kaesong to exchange views over inter-Korean relations.
