SRINAGAR, Indian-controlled Kashmir -- Four militants were killed on Saturday in a predawn fierce gunfight in restive Indian-controlled Kashmir, police said.

The gunfight erupted at village Hajin Payeen of Pulwama district, about 40 km south of Srinagar city, the summer capital of Indian-controlled Kashmir. (India-Kashimir-Gunfight)

MANILA -- A powerful 7.1-magnitude earthquake struck off the Davao Oriental province in the southern Philippine island of Mindanao on Saturday, triggering a tsunami warning, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.

The institute said the quake hit at 11:39 a.m. local time with a depth of 49 km. The epicenter was located offshore, 162 km southeast of Governor Generoso in Davao Oriental. (Philippines-Earthquake)

DHAKA -- Troops were patrolling the streets of the Bangladeshi capital Dhaka after the Election Commission authorized the deployment of over 12,000 soldiers to assist the civil administration in ensuring security ahead of the parliamentary polls on Sunday.
