KIEV, Dec. 29 (Xinhua) -- The Ukrainian Interior Ministry will order about 20 coast guard cutters next year for patrolling Ukraine's maritime borders, the press service of the ministry said Saturday on Facebook.
The cutters as long as 32 to 35 meters will be developed in cooperation with a French company and produced at a shipbuilding plant in Ukraine, said Ukrainian Interior Minister Arsen Avakov, without giving further details.
Avakov said that purchasing new vessels will help Ukraine modernize its outdated maritime fleet.
Local experts estimated that the Ukrainian Coast Guard fleet is composed of some 50 cutters. Enditem
