JERUSALEM, Dec. 31 (Xinhua) -- Israeli researchers have found a way to extend the life of mice, which could help slow down human aging, according to a report published by the Weizmann Institute of Science on Monday.

The research began with the investigation of how the immune system is involved in clearing away old, senescent cells.

In the research, the mice lacking the gene for the immune activity suffered from chronic inflammation, and various functions in their bodies appeared to be diminished.

The researchers gave the mice a drug that inhibits the function of certain proteins that help the aging cells survive, and found that the aging process slowed significantly.

The purpose of the research is to explore ways to prompt the human body to remove its old cells, particularly to find means of activating the immune system. Enditem
