S. Korea's online shopping keeps record-breaking trend for 2 months

SEOUL, Jan. 2 (Xinhua) -- South Korea's online shopping kept a record-breaking trend for two straight months due to the convenience of shopping in the cyberspace, a government report showed on Wednesday.

Transactions in the cyberspace reached 10.6 trillion won (9.5 billion U.S. dollars) in November, up 22.1 percent from a year earlier, according to Statistics Korea.

It surpassed the previous high of 10.04 trillion won (9 billion U.S. dollars) tallied in October, topping 9 billion U.S. dollars for the second consecutive month.

Retail sales in the cyberspace continued to grow on the convenience of product orders through smartphones.

The percentage of online shopping to the total real sales stood at 20.5 percent in November, exceeding 20 percent for the first time. As of 2017, the figure was 16.2 percent.

The mobile shopping through smartphones gained 28 percent from a year earlier to 6.6 trillion won (5.9 billion U.S. dollars) in November, marking the record high in the country's history. Enditem
