PHNOM PENH, Jan. 2 (Xinhua) -- Eight Chinese nationals got injured in a collision involving a dump truck, a pickup truck, and motorbikes in Cambodia's southwestern Preah Sihanouk province on Wednesday, a local traffic police chief said.

Prum Pov, chief of Preah Sihanouk Provincial Traffic Police Bureau, said the accident occurred at noon when a speedy dump truck crashed into a pickup truck and swerved to hit other motorbikes.

"One Cambodian man was killed and 16 others, including eight Chinese men, got injured in the crash," he told Xinhua via telephone. "Four of the Chinese victims sustained serious injuries."

The Chinese men, who are construction workers at a Chinese project in the coastal province, were travelling on the pickup truck when they met the accident, he said, adding that all of the injured had been rushed to nearby hospitals.

According to Prum Pov, the careless dump truck driver, who was blamed for the accident, fled the scene and police are looking for him.

Death toll from road traffic accidents remains high in Cambodia. In 2018, a total of 1,761 people were killed as 4,771 others were injured in road crashes across the country, according to a government report. Enditem
