DHAKA, Jan. 3 (Xinhua) -- Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's new cabinet will be sworn in on Jan. 7 amid standoff with opposition, a week after achieving landslide victory in violence-hit general election.

President Abdul Hamid has invited Hasina to form her third straight five-year government, his Press Secretary Joynal Abedin, told journalists Thursday night.

He said members of the next cabinet including the prime minister will take oath at 3:30 p.m. (local time) on Monday at the President's Office.

The announcement came hours after the newly elected members of Bangladesh's parliament from Hasina's ruling coalition took the oath of office amid an opposition boycott on Thursday.

Bangladesh's Parliament Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury swore in the lawmakers including Hasina at a ceremony in capital Dhaka on Thursday.

The MPs from ex-Prime Minister Khaleda Zia's Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP)-led major opposition alliance skipped the oath-taking ceremony.

BNP rejected the election results, alleging various irregularities.

The Joint General Secretary of Bangladesh Awami League Jahangir Kabir Nanak said the election was held in free, fair and peaceful manner with the participation of all parties. Enditem
