NAIROBI, Jan. 3 (Xinhua) -- Kenya has lost to Egypt the bid to stage the 2019 African Volleyball Clubs Championships.

Tarek Al-Adwar, the African Volleyball Confederation (CAVB) Press Officer, said on Thursday they received over five bids but it was Egypt that won. Kenya, Nigeria and Tunisia had all put in a bid to stage the competition.

"Al-Ahly club of Egypt will host both the men and women's African Club Championship," said Al-Adwar.

The winner of the championship will represent Africa to compete at the World Club Championships qualifiers.

"The decision came after through study for the biddings coming from both Al-Ahly of Egypt, GSU of Kenya and Esperance of Tunisia where the first offer was better and won the honor to host," said Al-Adwar.

The competition will be held from April 1-10 in Cairo, Egypt. It will be the second time in as many years that Egypt will be staging the competition.

Last year, Al-Ahly won their 13th title to become the all time record holders. However, they will face stiff challenge in their bid to retain the title.

Kenya's General Service Unit (GSU) head coach Gideon Tarus has already sounded the alarm saying they will return to the continental scene as true champions representing Kenya.

In their last outing on the Africa scene, the paramilitary side retreated from the frontier with Egypt, Tunisia and Algeria teams dominating the attacks for the title. Enditem
