ATHENS, Jan. 4 (Xinhua) -- A Greek businessman who was kidnapped on Dec. 27, 2018 outside his home at Piraeus port was released on Friday in good condition, Greek national news agency AMNA reported.

Nikos Mavrikos, 50, father of three children, who owns a company importing tobacco and alcohol products, was forced into a car by four individuals as he was ready to enter his parked vehicle early in the morning.

The four perpetrators were wearing clothes similar to the uniforms of a special Greek police unit.

According to police sources his family was never contacted for ransom.

Police has still not announced where the businessman was released.

No arrests have been made yet, while the investigation continued.

Kidnappings are not reported often in Greece. In October 2017 in a rare case for the country, another Greek businessman was freed during a police operation.

Michalis Lempidakis, co-owner of a plastics company, was found in good condition six months after his abduction near his home on Crete island.

Twelve people were arrested and are currently on trial. The kidnappers had asked 100 million euros (114.2 million U.S. dollars) in cash as ransom from his family. (1 euro = 1.14 U.S. dollars) Enditem
