NAIROBI, Jan. 4 (Xinhua) -- Two-time world marathon champion Edna Kiplagat said Friday that she will throw her hat in the ring competing at her fifth World Championships in Doha, Qatar.

Kiplagat, who will be 40 at the 2019 World Championships, said she is still keen to clinch her third world title and also win the master race for athletes over 40 years old.

The fourth finisher at the Berlin Marathon in September, Kiplagat wants to improve on the silver medal she won in London in 2017 edition.

She made her debut at the 2011 World Championships in Daegu, Republic of Korea winning gold and retained her title in Moscow in 2013.

Kiplagat, however, was beaten to fifth place in Beijing in 2015 before securing silver in London.

"I love the World Championships because it lacks the pace setters. It is an open race. I have won two times and if I am given an opportunity to represent my country, it will be honor I cannot turn down. It will offer me a chance to go for my third gold," she said in Eldoret.

Kiplagat believes she still has more to offer despite her age. She was ninth at the Boston Marathon clocking 2:47:14 before settling for fourth spot in Berlin.

Kiplagat, who trains under her husband Gilbert Koech, said working together as a family gives her extra motivation and has urged young athletes to also take their families seriously if they want to succeed in their careers. Enditem
