Vietnam, Panama-flagged vessels collide, 1 dies

HANOI, Jan. 7 (Xinhua) -- A Vietnamese cement-carrying vessel collided with a Panama-flagged vessel in Vietnam's northern Quang Ninh province on Monday, killing the Vietnamese vessel's captain.

After crashing into Daio Southern Cross, which currently sails under the flag of Panama, the Vietnamese vessel broke into two halves, causing five Vietnamese people falling into Ha Long Bay, Ha Long city, the Maritime Administration of Quang Ninh said on Monday.

Some 30 minutes later, four Vietnamese crewmembers were rescued, and then body of the 32-year-old Vietnamese capital of the ship which carried over 1,000 tons of cement, was found.
