RABAT, Jan. 7 (Xinhua) -- Morocco transported a total of 9.45 billion cubic meter of gas from Algeria to Europe through its territories in 2018, Morocco's National Office for Hydrocarbons and Mining (ONHYM) said Monday in a statement.

According to ONHYM, the quantity of the gas transported through Maghreb-Europe gas pipeline increased by 18.9 percent compared with 2017.

The contract that regulates the pipeline, which started operating in 2002, will end in 2021.

Morocco is expected to get full ownership of the pipeline by the end of the contract.

The two countries have not started formal negotiations on the renewal of the agreement, and speculations over the future of this win-win agreement have intensified as Algeria is building another pipeline with Spain and Morocco is increasing gas exploration operations on its territories. Enditem
