TOKYO, Jan. 8 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks rose Tuesday morning following Wall Street's solid overnight lead and on hopes the U.S. and China can strike a trade deal following two days of negotiations ending later today.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average added 160.82 points, or 0.80 percent, from Monday to 20,199.79.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, gained 7.55 points, or 0.50 percent, at 1,520.08.
Marine transportation, oil and coal product, and precision instrument-linked issues comprised those that gained the most by the morning break. Enditem
