Morocco arrests 3 IS-linked suspects

RABAT, Jan. 8 (Xinhua) -- The Moroccan security services arrested on Tuesday three people over their suspected links to the Islamic State (IS) group, the interior ministry announced in a statement.

The suspects were part of a terror cell in the northern cities of Nador and Driouch, the statement pointed out.

According to initial investigations, the suspects were planning to carry out terrorist attacks in the Morocco after acquiring the necessary skills to manufacture explosive devices and toxic substances, the same source said.

This busting operation led to the seizure of electronic devices, bladed weapons, two hunting rifles, ammunition, military uniforms, manuscripts promoting IS extremist ideology, a large volume of sulphur, batteries and electrical cables, the source noted.

The arrest of these suspects comes few weeks after the murdering of two foreign tourists in a mountainous area near the tourist hub of Marrakech by IS-linked suspects. Enditem
