KINSHASA -- Opposition candidate Felix Tshisekedi has won the presidential election in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), according to interim results proclaimed early Thursday morning by the electoral commission.

According to the electoral commission, Tshisekedi, candidate of the Union for Democracy and Social Progress (UDPS), has collected more than 7 million votes across the country, with the exception of three cities where polls were not conducted for safety reasons. (DRC-Election Result)

BRASILIA -- Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro on Wednesday reaffirmed his decision to pull the country out of the United Nations (UN) Global Compact for Migration, saying migration policies must be defined on the national level.

TALUQAN, Afghanistan -- A total of 18 fighters including eight police and 10 militants have been confirmed dead as clash erupted in Khawja Ghar district of the northern Takhar province on Thursday, district governor Mohammad Omar said.

"A group of Taliban insurgents attacked security checkpoints in Gortepa area of Khawja Ghar district at 02:00 a.m. local time today, triggering heavy gun battle which lasted for a few hours, and as a result 10 rebels and eight security personnel were killed," Omar told Xinhua. (Afghanistan-Clash)
