BEIJING -- Chinese stocks closed lower on Thursday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 0.36 percent, at 2,535.10 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.26 percent lower at 7,428.61 points.

PHNOM PENH -- Cambodian stocks finished higher on Thursday, with the Cambodia Securities Exchange Index up 5.8 points, or 1.09 percent, to close at 538.89.

A total of 20,565 shares worth 131.4 million riel (32,755 U.S. dollars) were traded.

SYDNEY -- The Australian share market ended higher on Thursday, with higher oil prices spurring on investors.

At the close of trade, the benchmark S&P/ASX 200 index was up 17.00 points or 0.29 percent at 5,795.30, while the broader All Ordinaries index rose 15.50 points or 0.27 percent at 5,853.90.

SEOUL -- Seoul shares ended lower Thursday.

The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) inched down 1.43 points, or 0.07 percent, to settle at 2,063.28. Trading volume stood at 370 million shares worth 5.3 trillion won (4.7 billion U.S. dollars).

TOKYO -- Tokyo stocks closed lower Thursday as the benchmark Nikkei stock index's recent run of closing highs saw investors opt to secure gains with a firm yen also spurring profit-taking while exporters took a hit.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average dropped 263.26 points, or 1.29 percent, from Wednesday to close the day at 20,163.80.

VIENTIANE -- The Lao stock market on Thursday closed up 0.37 percent compared to the previous trading day.

The Lao Securities Exchange composite index increased by 3.02 points, reaching 816.49 points after closing.

HONG KONG -- Hong Kong stocks closed up 59.11 points, or 0.22 percent, to 26,521.43 points on Thursday.

The benchmark Hang Seng Index traded between 26,212.34 and 26,588.21. Turnover totaled 95.67 billion Hong Kong dollars (about 12.20 billion U.S. dollars).

KUALA LUMPUR -- The Malaysian stock market ended higher here on Thursday.

The Kuala Lumpur Composite Index (KLCI) was at 1,678.88, up 11.05 points or 0.66 percent, and the Emas was at 11,565.37, up 83.88 points or 0.73 percent.

SINGAPORE -- Singapore stocks closed higher on Thursday, with the benchmark Straits Times Index (STI) going up 0.81 percent or 25.44 points to close at 3183.51.

A total of 1.3 billion shares changed hands with a turnover of 1.11 billion Singapore dollars (about 821 million U.S. dollars). Gainers outnumbered losers by 229 to 146.

MUMBAI -- Indian markets closed lower Thursday.

Consumption and metal names were trading higher, while pain was visible among banks and pharmaceuticals, among others.

The benchmark S&P, BSE Sensex closed at 36,106.50, 106.41 points or 0.29 percent down compared to its previous close at 36,212.91.

BANGKOK -- The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) index Thursday moved down 2.87 points, or 0.18 percent to close at 1,587.63 points.
