PRAGUE, Jan. 10 (Xinhua) -- The average inflation rate in the Czech Republic for 2018 stood at 2.1 percent, according to statistics released Thursday by the Czech Statistical Office.

The figure was 0.4 percentage points down compared with the year 2017, and was the third highest average inflation rate in the previous 10 years, the office said in a release.

The cost of basic necessities, such as food, housing and transport, along with alcohol and tobacco, accounted for the largest part of the increase, it said.

Consumer prices in December increased by 0.1 percent compared with November, driven mainly by price increases in food and non-alcoholic beverages. The year-on-year growth of consumer prices amounted to 2.0 percent in December, according to the release. Enditem
