TRIPOLI, Jan. 10 (Xinhua) -- Libya's Prime Minister Fayez Serraj and the Head of the UN Support Mission in Libya Ghassan Salame on Thursday held a meeting in the capital Tripoli and discussed preparations for the upcoming national conference.

"During the meeting, the prime minister was briefed on the steps taken by the UN mission to ensure the success of the national conference to be held soon, which will gather political, social and cultural representatives without excluding anyone," said a statement issued by the PM's information office.

The Libyan national conference is expected to discuss the upcoming elections, constitution, mechanisms of resource allocation, and national reconciliation.

On Tuesday, the UN mission said that all information including the date, venue and other details of the conference will be announced on the mission's communications channels, and invitations to the event "will be sent out to expected participants, only from the mission."

Ever since the fall of the late leader Gaddafi's regime in 2011, Libya has been struggling to make a democratic transition amid escalating violence and political division. Enditem
