MOSCOW, Jan. 11 (Xinhua) -- Russia will give an adequate response if Britain implements its plans to build up a military presence in various regions of the world, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said Friday.

"In the event of the implementation of any measures that pose a threat to the security of Russia and its allies, our country reserves the right to take adequate response measures," Zakharova said at a weekly news briefing.

She commented on a recent interview with British Defense Secretary Gavin Williamson in the Sunday Telegraph, in which he suggested Britain building two new military bases in the Caribbean and Far East after leaving the European Union.

The newspaper identified the locations of the new facilities as Singapore or Brunei in the South China Sea, and Montserrat or Guyana in the Caribbean.

Britain is constantly accusing Russia of some aggressive expansion, while exposing its own aspirations, Zakharova said.

"We see this as a clear contradiction," she added. Enditem
