Exhibition of Indian traditional crafts, culture, cuisines starts

NEW DELHI, Jan. 13 (Xinhua) -- Hunar Haat, an exhibition-sale of artifacts made by craftsmen and artisans from across India, began in New Delhi on Sunday.

Besides the handicrafts items, popular cuisines from different states are too up on sale for foodies.

The country's Finance Minister Arun Jaitley and Minority Affairs Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi inaugurated Hunar Haat, an eight-day event organized at the State Emporia Complex in the heart of Delhi.

Speaking after inaugurating the event, Jaitley said that India was full of heritage of master artisans, and programmes such as Hunar Haat were playing an important role in national and international branding of this heritage.

He said it was a great effort at projecting the talent of Indian artisans, and added that branding the art of master artisans of the country was very important and programmes such as Hunar Haat played an important role in this direction. Such programs will benefit hundreds and thousands of people associated with this sector.

On the occasion, Naqvi said that Hunar Haat had become a "credible brand" to fulfill Prime Minister Narendra Modi's commitment to programmes like "Make in India", "Stand up India"and "Start up India".

During the last year, Hunar Haat, organized in various parts of the country, had been successful in providing employment opportunities to about 162,000 artisans and other people associated with them. Hunar Haat has become a credible and renowned brand where exquisite handicraft and handloom made by master artisans and various delicacies from across the country are available under one roof.

According to Naqvi, master artisans and culinary experts, including a large number of women from every corner of the country were participating in Hunar Haat.

Indigenous exquisite pieces of handicraft and handloom work like cane and bamboo, jute products from Assam, a variety of silks from the states of Jharkhand and Bihar, Varanasi silk, Lucknawi Chikankari, ceramic, terracotta, glassware, brassware, leather, marble products of Uttar Pradesh, Kashmir Namda, traditional handicrafts from north-eastern region, Ajrakh, Bandhej, mud-work, copper bells from Gujarat, silver filigree products from Odisha and bamboo crafts from Chhattisgarh, scissors from Meerut are available at this Hunar Haat.

Besides, popular traditional dishes from states like Rajasthan, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, and Kerala are also available off the shelves for the visitors.

Also, cultural shows including songs and dances are organized in the evenings much to the delight of those visiting the event. Enditem
