TRIPOLI, Jan. 14 (Xinhua) -- Libyan Health Ministry on Monday revealed it has rejected shipment of leishmaniasis medicines from India.

The ministry explained that the medicines were unsuitable for human consumption and did not comply with standards.

The shipment contains 95 injections of leishmaniasis medicines from India, the Health Ministry said in a statement.

"The Drug and Food Control Center and the Center for Disease Control tested the shipment and found out that the medicines do not meet the standard specifications," the statement said.

The ministry said that a European shipment of leishmaniasis medicines will arrive next week.

Over the past four months, thousands of leishmaniasis cases have been reported in Libya, which suffers a severe shortage of medication. Enditem
