WASHINGTON -- The U.S. Department of Defense announced a decision Monday to extend the deployment of active duty troops at the border with Mexico to Sept. 30.

Earlier in the day, the Pentagon also confirmed in a statement it would send a fresh contingent of active duty troops to the southern border at the request of officials from the Department of Homeland Security. (US-Mexico-Troop)

SEOUL -- High-level talks between the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) and the United States were expected to be held in Washington this week to discuss the second DPRK-U.S. summit, Yonhap news agency reported Tuesday citing diplomatic sources.

The unnamed diplomatic source was quoted as saying it was known that Pyongyang and Washington were in talks to hold a senior-level dialogue, noting that given the U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo's schedule, the possible date for the high-level talks would be from Thursday to Friday. KABUL -- The Taliban outfit has claimed responsibility for the deadly motor bomb that rocked Kabul and claimed at least four lives and injured 90 others on Monday evening, the armed outfit said in a statement posted on its website on Tuesday.

In the statement, Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Majahid asserted that a suicide bomber named Matasim Logari blew up his explosive-laden car in Green village area at Police District 9 at around 07:00 p.m. local time, enabling four more fighters to enter the compound of foreigners to target those inside, "resultantly dozens of foreigners and their Afghan associates" were killed. MEXICO CITY -- Mexico is preparing for the expected arrival of a new caravan of undocumented Central American migrants at its southern border, official sources said Monday.

A U.S.-bound caravan is scheduled to depart from Honduras on Tuesday, according to Alejandro Encinas, deputy minister of Human Rights, Migration and Population at the Interior Ministry. (Mexico-Migrants)

ISLAMABAD -- At least eight laborers were killed and several others went missing as a passenger van got buried by a landslide in Pakistan's north Kohistan district, local reports said Tuesday.

The landslide completely buried the van at a main highway late on Monday night, and the rescue operation started early on Tuesday morning by authorities and volunteers. (Pakisitan-Landslide-Toll) Enditem
