TORONTO, Jan. 15 (Xinhua) -- Canada's main stock market continued rising Tuesday due to gains in the energy sector as the price of oil moved up.
The Toronto Stock Exchange's benchmark Standard & Poor's/TSX Composite Index rose 70.75 points, or 0.47 percent, to 15,046.28.
The Canadian dollar traded for 0.7549 U.S. dollar compared with the previous day's 0.7536 U.S. dollar.
On the market,140 issues rose while 95 ones fell. There were 6 new highs and no new lows, with total volume of 241 million shares.
The energy sector rose 2.81 points, or 1.88 percent while the financial group climbed 1.39 points, or 0.5 percent.
The most heavily traded shares by volume were Aurora Cannabis Inc., Canopy Growth Corp. and Aphria Inc.
Aurora Cannabis Inc. was up 27 cents, or 3 percent, to 9.27 Canadian dollars on 40.6 million shares.
Canopy Growth Corp. fell 2.94 percent to 54.79 Canadian dollars on 8.6 million shares.
Aphria Inc. lost 44 cents, or 4.72 percent, to 8.89 Canadian dollars on 7.4 million shares. Enditem
