Tokyo stocks open lower as investors opt for profits, Brexit concerns weigh

TOKYO, Jan. 16 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened lower Wednesday as investors opted to secure profits made from recent gains amid ongoing uncertainty surrounding the Brexit deal.

As of 9:15 p.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average dropped 147.58 points, or 0.72 percent, from Tuesday to 20,407.71.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, lost 9.03 points, or 0.59 percent, to 1,533.69.

Rubber product, securities firms, and oil and coal product-linked issues comprised those that declined the most in the opening minutes after the morning bell. Enditem
