SUVA, Jan. 16 (Xinhua) -- Bus drivers and companies in Fiji will be issued Traffic Infringement Notices (TINS) for carrying excess passengers as per PSV Regulation from Wednesday.

Chief Executive of Fiji's Land Transport Authority (LTA) Samuel Simpson said on Wednesday that overloaded buses threatened road safety and contributed to many fatal accidents on Fiji's roads.

Overloaded buses not only put the driver at risk but also passengers and other road users, he said, adding that overloaded buses incurred higher maintenance costs and higher fuel consumption.

Fiji Roads Authority's General Manager Network Operations and Maintenance Aram Goes said earlier that overloading of vehicles contributed to a lot of damage on Fiji's roads which was an expensive exercise separate from the construction of new roads and other capital works. Enditem
