UNITED NATIONS, Jan. 16 (Xinhua) -- The Security Council on Wednesday adopted a resolution to establish a UN mission to support the Hodeidah agreement between the Yemeni government and Houthi rebels.

Resolution 2452, which won unanimous support of the 15 members of the council, decides to establish a special political mission, for an initial period of six months, to support the implementation of the agreement on the city of Hodeidah and ports of Hodeidah, Salif and Ras Issa as set out in the Stockholm Agreement.

The Security Council last month authorized an advance team for 30 days to monitor and support the implementation of the Stockholm Agreement, reached in UN-brokered talks in Sweden in December.

The Yemeni government and Houthi rebels agreed on a cessation of hostilities in Hodeidah governorate and the mutual redeployment of forces from Hodeidah city and the ports of Hodeidah, Salif and Ras Issa. They also agreed on a mechanism for the exchange of prisoners and reached an understanding on Taiz, another frontline city.

The new resolution approves the proposals of UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on the composition and operational aspects of the political mission called the UN Mission to support the Hodeidah Agreement (UNMHA).

The mission will have 75 UN monitors and other support staff and would be headed by Gen. Patrick Cammaert of the Netherlands as chair of the Redeployment Coordination Committee.

The committee, which includes representatives of the Yemeni government and the Houthis, was established by the Hodeidah agreement to supervise the redeployment of forces. Gen. Cammaert arrived in Yemen last month with the advance team that the Security Council authorized in Resolution 2451. Enditem
