British stocks down 0.47 pct

LONDON, Jan. 16 (Xinhua) -- British stocks decreased on Wednesday, with the benchmark FTSE 100 Index down by 0.47 percent, or 32.34 points, to close at 6,862.68 points.

Taylor Wimpey, a UK-based residential developer, soared 5.64 percent, the top gainer of the blue chips. Persimmon and Marks & Spencer Group increased by 5.41 percent and 4.02 percent, respectively.

Pearson, a British multinational publishing and education company, was the worst performer in the blue chips, with its shares losing 5.98 percent. Reckitt Benckiser Group, a British multinational consumer goods company, dropped 4.19 percent. EVRAZ, a multinational vertically integrated steel making and mining company, fell 3.58 percent.
