LONDON, Jan. 16 (Xinhua) -- World number one Mark Selby eased past Stephen Maguire 6-2 in the first round of Masters snooker tournament at Alexandra Palace here on Wednesday.

Selby, who has never won a match in snooker's three biggest events - the World Championship, the Masters and UK Championships - since 2017, scored three century breaks of 115, 125 and 133 and also had runs of 95 and 96 in the comfortable victory.

He will take on Judd Trump in Friday's quarterfinal. Trump, ranked fifth in the world, stormed to a 6-2 win over last year's beaten finalist Kyren Wilson earlier and gained revenge for a semifinal defeat here last year. Enditem
