MOSCOW, Jan. 17 (Xinhua) -- Russia's telecommunications watchdog Roskomnadzor said Thursday it has sent a second request to British news outlet BBC World News in Russia for additional documents to prove its compliance with Russian law.

Roskomnadzor spokesman Vadim Ampelonsky said the BBC submitted documents Wednesday as requested by Roskomnadzor, but the information provided was not comprehensive.

Therefore, another request was forwarded to the company asking for "all the necessary information demonstrating its compliance with the norms of the law restricting foreign ownership in media outlets operating in Russia," Ampelonsky was quoted by Russia's Interfax news agency as saying.

In December, the British Office of Communications, the country's media regulator, accused Russia's RT broadcaster of breaching impartiality rules in seven news programs in 2018 and warned of punitive measures against it.

In response, Roskomnadzor initiated an inspection of BBC World News and BBC online resources to check if the British broadcaster is in compliance with relevant licensing and regulatory requirements.

Russia has recently strengthened the implementation of its law on restricting foreign legal entities operating in the country. In early December, Roskomnadzor announced the decision to impose a fine of 500,000 rubles (around 7,505 U.S. dollars) on Google for its failure to remove links to prohibited information from search results as required by Russian law.
