LONDON, Jan. 17 (Xinhua) -- British stocks decreased on Thursday, with the benchmark FTSE 100 Index down by 0.40 percent, or 27.76 points, to close at 6,834.92 points.

ITV, a British media company, was the worst performer in the blue chips, with its shares losing 5.94 percent. Wood Group (John), an international energy services company, dropped 4.65 percent. SSE, a Scottish energy company, fell 3.31 percent.

Associated British Foods, a British multinational food processing and retailing company, soared 6.98 percent, the top gainer of the blue chips. Sage Group and GVC Holdings increased by 5.40 percent and 2.08 percent, respectively. Enditem
