BEIJING -- Chinese stocks closed higher on Friday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 1.42 percent, at 2,596.01 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index closed 1.49 percent higher at 7,581.39 points.

SINGAPORE -- Singapore stocks closed higher on Friday, with the benchmark Straits Times Index (STI) going up 0.31 percent, or 9.90 points, to close at 3,224.34.

A total of 2.05 billion shares changed hands with a turnover of 906.87 million Singapore dollars (about 668.29 million U.S. dollars). Gainers outnumbered losers by 241 to 137.

KUALA LUMPUR -- The Malaysian stock market ended higher here on Friday.

The Kuala Lumpur Composite Index (KLCI) was at 1,692.22 up 9.25 points or 0.55 percent, and the Emas was at 11,704.36 up 53.93 points or 0.46 percent.

There were 486 gainers,369 losers and 365 counters traded unchanged.

VIENTIANE -- The Lao stock market closed on Friday down 0.11 percent compared to the previous trading day.

The Lao Securities Exchange composite index decreased 0.88 points, reaching 817.82 points after closing.

HONG KONG -- Hong Kong stocks closed up 335.18 points, or 1.25 percent, to 27,090.81 points on Friday.

The benchmark Hang Seng Index traded between 26,915.08 and 27,116.65. Turnover totaled 92.03 billion Hong Kong dollars (about 11.74 billion U.S. dollars).

HANOI -- Stock market index of Vietnam's capital Hanoi, HNX-Index, closed at 101.56 points on Friday, down 0.37 points or 0.36 percent from the previous trading session.

Prices of 55 stocks went up, 77 stocks dropped, while 245 stocks remained unchanged.

TOKYO -- Tokyo stocks closed higher Friday.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average added 263.80 points, or 1.29 percent, from Thursday to close the day at 20,666.07.

SEOUL -- Seoul shares ended higher Friday.

The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) gained 17.22 points, or 0.82 percent, to settle at 2,124.28. Trading volume stood at 449.3 million shares worth 5.2 trillion won (4.6 billion U.S. dollars).

PHNOM PENH -- Cambodia's stocks finished higher on Friday, with the Cambodia Securities Exchange Index up 8.56 points, or 1.49 percent, to close at 582.82.

A total of 75,011 shares worth 464.4 million riel (115,787 U.S. dollars) were traded.

BANGKOK -- The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) index Friday moved up 3.47 points, or 0.22 percent to close at 1,583.77 points.

Some 12.08 billion shares worth 48.27 billion baht (about 1.53 billion U.S. dollars) changed hands.

JAKARTA -- Indonesian shares closed higher by 24.37 points, or 0.38 percent, to a level of 6,448.15 on Friday.

MUMBAI -- Indian markets closed flat on a positive note Friday.
