NEW YORK, Jan. 18 (Xinhua) -- U.S. stocks opened higher on Friday as Wall Street became more optimistic about potential trade progress between Washington and its major trading partners.
Shortly after the opening bell, the Dow Jones Industrial Average jumped 158.90 points, or 0.65 percent, to 24,529.00, while the S&P 500 gained 16.38 points, or 0.62 percent, to 2,652.34.
The Nasdaq Composite Index rose 41.70 points, or 0.59 percent, to 7,126.17.
The three major indices are on pace for their four-day winning streak.
All the 11 primary S&P 500 sectors traded on an upbeat note, with both consumer discretionary and industrials up about 1 percent, outpacing others.
Shares of Boeing, a company with high overseas revenue exposure, advanced more than 1 percent in the morning session while another trade-sensitive stock, Caterpillar, also climbed.
However, shares of Netflix dropped 3 percent. The U.S. online streaming giant reported mixed fourth-quarter results after Thursday's close, with earnings exceeding estimates while revenue missing them. Enditem
