MAIMANA, Afghanistan -- A key commander of the hardliner Islamic State (IS) was arrested in Maimana, the capital city of Afghanistan's northern Faryab province on Friday, an army spokesman in the northern region Abdul Hadi Jamal said Saturday.

"An IS notorious commander who disguised himself as ordinary man and was planning to move to some unknown place was identified by law enforcing agencies in Maimana city on Friday afternoon and arrested," Jamal told Xinhua. (Afghanistan-IS-Arrest)

MEXICO CITY -- At least 20 people were killed and 54 others injured in a pipeline explosion in the central Mexican state of Hidalgo on Friday, local authorities said.

The accident occurred around 7:00 p.m. local time (0100 GMT) at a pipeline spot in the community of San Primitivo of the municipality of Tlahuelilpan, when dozens of people gathered around the leak to collect fuel. (Mexico-Explosion)

RIO DE JANEIRO -- The United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization on Friday announced that the Brazilian city of Rio de Janeiro will be the World Capital of Architecture for 2020.

Having defeated Paris and Melbourne, Rio will be the first city to receive the title under a program launched together by UNESCO and the International Union of Architects (UIA) in November 2018.
