JAKARTA, Jan. 20 (Xinhua) -- Indonesian Football Association (PSSI) chairman Eddy Rahmayadi resigned on Sunday amid poor outcomes in regional tournaments and on-going investigation into match-fixing allegation in the national league.

The resignation was conveyed by Eddy himself when he opened the PSSI annual congress in a Bali lavish hotel.

"For the sake of PSSI advancement, I resign as of today from the chair of PSSI," Eddy, also the governor of Indonesia's North Sumatra province said.

PSSI deputy chairman Joko Driyono was to run the national football administration.

Eddy, a former army general elected as North Sumatra governor last year, was elected to chair PSSI in 2016 with service term until 2020.

Pressures for Eddy to resign have been mounted following Indonesia's failure in 2018 ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) Cup tournament, as well as match-fixing allegation in the national league with investigation being underway. Enditem
