TOKYO, Jan. 21 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened higher Monday, with investor sentiment lifted by a comparatively weak yen against the U.S. dollar, coupled with Wall Street's solid lead late last week.

As markets opened here, the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 159.94 points, or 0.77 percent, from Friday to 20,826.01.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, added 12.54 points, or 0.81 percent, at 1,570.13.

Mining, oil and coal product, and marine transportation-linked issues comprised those that gained the most in the opening minutes after the morning bell. Enditem
