(Sports)Jakarta to host 2019 Indonesia Masters intl badminton tournament this week

JAKARTA, Jan. 21 (Xinhua) -- Indonesias capital city was scheduled to host 2019 Indonesia Masters international badminton tournament this week, participated by 267 badminton players from 20 countries, the tournament chief organizer said here on Monday.

The tournament that part of Badminton World Federation (BWF) World Tour Super 500 is now offering total prize of 350,000 U.S. Dollars, to be held from Jan. 22 to 27 in the capital citys landmark badminton stadium of Istora Senayan.

"The upcoming tournament would be interesting as top players have strong motivations to win championship titles at the beginning of the year," the tournament chief organizer Achmad Budiharto told a press conference here.

He also expected that outcomes of the tournament would further support Indonesian teams credibility in the following international badminton tournaments.

China becomes the country that deploys largest number of players at 42 in 2019 Indonesia Masters tournament, he added.

Indonesia Badminton Association (PBSI) Sport Development Chief Susy Susanti said that the association has set a target to secure at least one champion title from Mens Doubles (MD) pairing in 2019 Indonesia Masters tournament.

But besides that we also expect to see more surprises from players in other groups. 2019 Indonesia Masters must serve as a good start for us to achieve other targets throughout this year, Susy said in the same occasion.

Indonesia to deploy top badminton players in the tournament, among others Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo / Marcus Fernaldi Gideon who just won championship title in Malaysia Open Mens Doubles (MD) final, Mens Singles (MS) player Anthony Sinisuka Ginting, Womens Doubles (WD) players Greysia Polii / Apriyani Rahayu and Mixed Doubles (XD) players Tontowi Ahmad / Lilyana Natsir.
