CHINGOLA, Zambia, Jan. 21 (Xinhua) -- The mayor of Chingola town in Zambia's central Copperbelt Province said on Monday that his town welcomes Chinese investment in agricultural projects.

Mayor Titus Tembo said the mining town of Chingola has vast unexploited farmlands, which the Chinese farmers could venture in large-scale agricultural production.

"Chingola has a good comparative advantage in Zambia," said the mayor to Xinhua. "Its location is a gateway to the Democratic Republic of Congo."

The town, which solely depends on mining activities, is trying to diversify by promoting other sectors such as agriculture, said Tembo, adding that technological advancement in China's agriculture would go a long way in boosting agriculture in the town.

He cited fish farming and game ranching as some of the agriculture activities Chinese enterprises could venture into.

Chinese investment in agriculture would go a long way in opening up other industries, such as agri-processing, he said. Enditem
