KABUL -- At least 17 Taliban militants were killed and 11 others wounded in separate incidents in Afghanistan, authorities said Monday.

In one incident, seven Taliban were killed and 11 others wounded after clashes between Afghan army soldiers and militants erupted in Qaisar district of Afghanistan's northern Faryab province late Sunday, Hanif Rezai, spokesman of army Corps 209 Shaheen, told Xinhua. (Afghanistan-Taliban-Attack)

COLOMBO -- Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena on Monday launched a drug eradication week in all national schools across the island country to curb the spread of drugs, especially among students and youth.

TOKYO -- A man died after being shot in Tokyo's Kabukicho district on Monday, local media reported.

NEW DELHI -- As many as 16 bodies were recovered after a ferry carrying 24 people capsized in a river in southern Indian state of Karnataka on Monday, an official said.

A search and rescue operation has been launched by the Indian Navy (IN) and the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) to trace the missing boat and the passengers in Karwar area, confirmed an official source of the Indian Navy in New Delhi. (India-Ferry Accident) Enditem
