OSLO, Jan. 21 (Xinhua) -- A Viking helmet found over 70 years ago has been reassembled at the Norwegian Museum of Cultural History after missing pieces were found in the museum's storage, newspaper Aftenposten reported Monday.

A total of 17 parts of the old helmet, which was found in 1943 in Buskerud near Oslo, have been put together in two months by Norwegian archaeological conservator Vegard Vike.

"This has been a very meticulous work. I wanted the helmet to appear aesthetically great and most accurate. So, it has been time consuming," Vike told Aftenposten.

"Now we can show a helmet that consists of two thirds of the original helmet," he said.

The helmet is unique as it is the only Viking helmet found so far and will be presented in the museum's exhibition in March, the report said.

The reassembling showed two holes in the helmet, made by spearheads that were found in the same tumulus.

This can be traced back to a ritual ceremony for the deceased, who was probably a "powerful and rich man," according to Vike. Enditem
