U.S. navy ship visits Georgia's Batumi port

TBILISI, Jan. 21 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. navy ship Donald Cook (DDG 75) arrived in Georgia's Black Sea port Batumi for a visit on Monday as part of a regularly scheduled deployment.
According to a statement posted on the official website of Georgia's government of the Autonomous Republic of Adjara, this visit confirms the commitment of the United States to Georgia and serves to promote security in the region.
"This again emphasizes the important strategic relations between our two countries. It will also strengthen the peace in the Black Sea and the region at large," said Tornike Rijvadze, chairman of the government of Adjara, during the welcoming ceremony in Batumi.
The U.S. war ship, which has 306 crew members on board, will conduct a series of joint training exercises with the Georgian Coastal Guard during its visit, according to the statement.
The statement did not elaborate the details of Donald Cook's voyage plan in the Black Sea. Enditem
